$900 towards Japan Relief Efforts!

I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all that participated and supported my mini auction. Even if you didn’t bid, thank you for reading and spreading the word – it means a lot! I am so happy that this auction was a success, and that it’s going towards such an important cause. You all are the best!

Congratulations to Rebecca from beautiful Hawaii (I’m a tad jealous of the quilt ;)! I will be contacting you shortly via email to arrange shipping and donation details. And I have great news…thanks to my generous in-laws, Rebecca’s donation is being matched by them. And then on top of that, the company I work for will double that total! So the total donation going toward Japan Relief Efforts comes out to $900! Thank you everyone!

On a different note, because of the auction I haven’t blogged in a while so here are a few updates:

I received my latest batch of fabric from Moda! The above collection is called Strawberry Fields by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda. If you liked the Quilt for Japan design, my next Moda Bakeshop tutorial will be on how to make that quilt. It’s a really simple pattern that applies the ‘stack and whack’ method so there’s no measuring involved – just stack, cut and sew!

As it only requires one layer cake pack to make the quilt top, I will also be hosting another fabric giveaway along with the MBS post, so please stay tuned if you’re interested. 🙂

I’ve been spending so much money on batting that I finally bought myself a jumbo roll. I had to have my husband carry it up to my sewing room. This is Warm and White batting – it’s one of my favorites because it quilts well and it doesn’t shrink as much . My other favorite batting is called Soft and Bright. If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I’d be more than happy to answer.

Lastly, some of you asked if my faithful furrball, Paige, kept me company as I stayed up until 2 am working on the Quilt for Japan last weekend. She sure did!

Happy Quilting!

Fabric + Chocolate = Happiness

Quilt Tutorials and Fabric Creations - Quilting In The Rain - Fabric + Chocolate = HappinessChocolates while sewing…could I ask for more?! Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

On a different note, I’m going to be traveling this week for work which means less time to sew. :*( However, in a hurry to cram some last minute sewing therapy before my trip I managed to start two new projects. It’s probably wise to stick to one project at a time as to not get overwhelmed, but I couldn’t choose which fabrics to use first so I did both. Problem solved!

Anyway, I won’t tell you what these projects are until I’m completely done. But I will give you a glimpse or two. Here’s the first one:

Quilt Tutorials and Fabric Creations - Quilting In The Rain - Fabric + Chocolate = HappinessYup, those are charm squares. I got to use my new walking foot and quilted some random and fun straight stitching. This is the first time I’ve ever used a walking foot…and i LOVE it. Should have gotten one sooner.

Quilt Tutorials and Fabric Creations - Quilting In The Rain - Fabric + Chocolate = HappinessMy second project was in the first picture above (with the chocolates). I’ll be using each and every one of these lovely prints to finish it:

Quilt Tutorials and Fabric Creations - Quilting In The Rain - Fabric + Chocolate = HappinessThe above prints are a collection by Michael Miller called “Meadowsweet 2,” designed by Sandi Henderson.

That’s it for now. Not sure when I’ll be able to do my next post…but until then, happy quilting! 🙂

Custom Made Sewing Table

What better way to start the new year than your very own, custom made sewing table?! I’m sure there’s plenty of other answers for that, but all you fellow sew-aholics out there can throw me a bone ;o)

Towards the end of last year I mentioned to my husband how cool it would be to have a sewing table that fit my machine so that the presser foot was leveled with the table top. The very first week of the new year my husband returned from the hardware store with supplies and one weekend later, low and behold, I had a brand new oh so beautiful, custom made sewing table! I am a lucky girl.

An extension table was added to give me more crafting space as needed.

Here are some pictures of when the table was being built. In this photo you can see the shelf that was installed to hold my sewing machine. The sewing machine sits on this shelf instead of the table top.

In this next photo, the table top is on the floor. You can see the custom cut-out of the base of my sewing machine.
We stained the table with a warm oak finish. I am loving my new table. Having the presser foot leveled with the table top allows me to relax my shoulders as I sew.

Here’s how my new sewing area looks (believe me it’s rarely this tidy). What a great way to start off the new year sewing!

Custom Quilt Labels

Just a short and sweet post to show off my new quilt labels! I had them custom made from Jennifer’s Jewel’s on Etsy. She has lots of designs to choose from if you don’t have your own. It adds a final touch to a quilt (and it’s inexpensive)!
What better way to end this short and sweet post with my short and sweet furry babies!? Literally short, being that they’re Corgi’s, and sweet, because…well just look at them 😉 Here’s Bodie (left) and Paige (right) enjoying my latest Tiffany Diamond’s quilt. 🙂

The tutorial on tying a quilt is on it’s way. 🙂 My next project will be the rug that i mentioned in an earlier post. Happy quilting!

A Quilt from Across the Continent

I started this blog 4 months ago not only for my love of fabric and creating beautiful things from it, but also to make daunting projects -such as piecing together an entire quilt top- not seem so daunting. Anyway, I feel a step closer to accomplishing that as of last week. =) I received this beautiful picture of a quilt that Melissa from Kings County, New Brunswick in Canada made. This was Melissa’s very first quilt, and she used the Cuttin’ Corners Quilt tutorial as a guide. I absolutely adore the color choices she used. The wavy-lines quilting compliments the shapes on the quilt top, and the best part is you can use a straight-stitch on your sewing machine; simply move the quilt top in long S’s under the presser foot.
Melissa also used the Quick Quilt Binding tutorial to help finish the project. It turned out beautiful! And it looks so soft.
Thanks again, Melissa, for sending me these photos and for encouraging me to continue my posts. 🙂
