Quilt as you Go Log Cabin

I haven’t done a blog post in a while as I’ve been doing most of my posts via Quilting in the Rain Facebook or more recently,Β  Instagram. It’s a nice way to share “in the moment” pictures. But I thought I’d do a post to share some lovely shots I got of this quilt.
If you’re in Washington, I’m teaching a class on this quilt in Ballard at the Quilting Loft on Feb 11th. I believe there’s two spots left if you want to get all crafty and creative with me on a Tuesday night πŸ™‚Β  http://www.thequiltingloft.com/log-cabin-quilt-as-you-go.html
I quilted the blocks and assembled this quilt in 2 nights, thanks to my
speedy Quilt as you Go technique (book coming out this September!).
Notice the coffee cup? So very Seattle. I was up until 2 AM the other night finishing this thanks to good ‘ol caffeine. Nights seem to be the only time I can find to quilt lately. Coffee is how I make it work πŸ˜‰

Here’s some up-close of the quilting and fabric. It’s all about the details.

I made this quilt using low volume colors. My other quilt I made using this same pattern I used red and whites. It looks completely different! I love how fabrics completely change a quilt.

πŸ™‚ This little munchkin turns TWO this Saturday. Wow. Time flies!

One last picture…

Here’s a little bit of Spring for this rainy, wintery day!
Thank you for stopping by!
Oh, and Happy Superbowl weekend! (Go Hawks! πŸ˜‰

With a Happy Heart…Thank You!

With a happy and humbled heart I’m proud to announce that my Quilt for a Cause auction raised a total of $1,400 in donations! A special thank you to those who bid, and the handful of those who offered to match and/or add to the winning bid. Also, a big thank you to all who shared and/or ‘liked’ my post and helped spread the word. This auction wouldn’t have happened without the help of all of you via social media. You all rock!

All $1400 will go towards much needed typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines, as described in my previous post.

And this gets even better…my quilt will get even more charity mileage as the winner will be auctioning it off (yet again!) at an event called Festival of Trees in Salt Lake City.Β  This festival is to raise money for the children at Primary Children’s Hospital who can’t pay for the care received there. Click here to find out how you can help.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you again to all of those that helped make this happen! Much Love.

-xoxo Jera

Charity Quilt Auction for the Philippines

This auction has ended. Thank you to all who participated!
Earlier this month the catastrophic Typhoon Haiyan tore through the Pacific Islands of the Philippines leaving approximately 10 million people displaced, over 20,000 people injured and currently over 5,000 people dead with a rising death toll. My blog posts are usually light-hearted but these are the facts.
This Thanksgiving week, let’s be thankful for the family and friends that surround us, the warm food at our tables and the roof above our heads. But let’s also not forget those who need our help. Being from the Philippines, this one literally hits close to home. I know of families who went from having a roof over their heads to living out in the streets in the blink of an eye.Β
About the Auction: Place a bid on this lovely quilt for a cause, handmade by me. The highest bidder’s proceeds will be matched by a friend, and all money will go towards a typhoon relief effort (either American Red Cross or International Medical Corps).
How to Bid:Β  To place a bid, simply leave a comment with the following two:
  1. Your dollar amount
  2. A way for me to email you
This auction will end on Friday, November 29th. The highest bidder’s donation will me matched and I will ship the quilt to their address. I will contact the winner on Saturday, Nov 30th (we can use Paypal, a secure site for the money transfer).
Other Ways to Help: Every bit helps, so pleeeeease donate!Β  Below are direct links to legitimate agencies that you can easily donate to.
Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Here are some more photos and details about the quilt. Thank you to all who participate!

This quilt measures approximately 45″ x 54.” It makes a good size throw quilt, wall-hanging quilt or baby quilt. I made it with top quality, designer 100% cotton fabrics with a cozy Quilters Flannel for the backing. It’s a sturdy and warm quilt! πŸ™‚

I blind-stitched the binding by hand, as I do with most of my quilts. I also pieced together leftover scraps from the quilt top to create the binding, so everything matches beautifully.

The quilt will brighten up any room. πŸ™‚

Thank you again to all who participate in this quilt auction and/or donated. As a reminder,

A Corgi, a Quilt & a Cute Fabric Shop

Here’s what I did with the beautiful threads that that Cloud 9 Fabrics sent me the other week. The collection is called Koi by Rashida Coleman-Hale. It’s a scrappy take on my Rainy Days quilt, except I used my modern Quilt as You Go technique. The technique made it SO easy to do all of that intricate quilting! This was probably one of the funnest Quilt as You Go’s I’ve made so far.

And yes, this one will be in the book. πŸ™‚ Another one down. One and a halfΒ  more week left to complete 3 more quilt projects and bind 4 more quilts. What a month this has been!

Paige seems to approve. As soon as I laid it out for a picture she rolled right on and then fell asleep. What a Twinkie.

I timed myself on this one. It took me about 7 hours to quilt all the blocks and assemble the quilt. That’s not too bad considering it’s already quilted! The only thing left is to add backing and binding. I managed to make all of this yesterday, thanks to my son taking a super long (almost 4 hour!) nap, and another late night of quilting.

And because I don’t make enough blog posts (you’re better off following me on facebook for more updates :))…and because I know a lot of you are fabriholics as myself AND I happen to be at the fabric store constantly because of this book…I thought you might appreciate these pictures.

This is Drygoods Design, one of my favorite local fabric shops. It’s tucked behind Anchorship Coffee in a historical brick building in the SeattleΒ  neighborhood of Ballard. I always say it’s my little secret, though most fabriholics in Seattle have found it by now. πŸ˜‰

Oogling all these fabrics gives me inspiration. 😎

(thank goodness for that toy station!) As always, it was a long wait for my son πŸ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by! Happy (almost) Friday πŸ™‚

Sew Mama, sew!

Hey – it’s been a while so here’s a quick update on what I’ve been up to…

If you follow my Facebook you’ll know that I finally submitted my first draft! That was definitely a challenge getting my modern Quilt As You Go technique into clear and concise words. Now I have 3 weeks to finish 4 more quilts plus a home dec pillow, PLUS adding backing and binding on 9 quilts! YIKES. Wish me luck!!!

Anyway, here’s the latest…

Remember these pretty fabrics I posted a while back? They’re from the Clementine collection by Dear Stella.

Here’s a sneak peak of what I did with them:

Here’s a detail shot of my quilting. As I’ve been working on the book, my technique has continued to evolve. I just love how intricate you can get with the quilting without needing a fancy sewing machine. This may look like free-motion quilting, but I actually used a straight-line stitch setting. I simply moved the block left and right underneath the presser foot to make it sew a wavy line. It’s a damn good feeling when you can say you’ve finished a quilt, patchwork and quilting.

Also, I just had to share this beautiful and inspiring quilt that Tiffany, my friend and fellow fabricholic, made after taking my improv Quilt as You Go class. This is all her. No patterns were followed. It has a beautiful mix of abstract and traditional looking blocks. It’s near completion, all she needs to do is bind it. (btw, if you’re interested in taking a class I should have some new ones up in late September. I’ve been on a temporary hiatus for the book).

Tiffany’s beautiful quilt will be featured in the book. πŸ™‚

Last but not least, I got a very nice package in the mail the other day that made me a very happy girl.

Thanks Michael Miller Fabrics for the hookup! This collection is called Waterfront Park. I’ll be working with these next, so check out my Facebook for updates. πŸ™‚ I’m always posting pretty pictures.

Happy Friday all!
