Halloween Quilt!

Quick but picture-lengthy post to share this Halloween quilt that I made for my son! We are both obsessed with Halloween so this way, Simon can have Halloween year round. 🙂 I don’t have an official pattern for you, but I do have a summary of what I did if you scroll down.

All fabrics are from Joanne Fabrics! They have so many fun choices and they always seem to be 50% off. You can’t really tell from my photos but some of the prints have a silver sparkle to them. Simon helped me pick them out!

Sewing for my kids is seriously my favorite kind of project! I sewed this quilt in one night (i was up until 3 am!). But Simon’s big smile the next morning made it all worth it. This was one of those projects that I’d never get done if I didn’t just sit down and do it!

I listened to the Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole book series on audio book while making this – it’s a post apocalyptic story-line so it was perfect for this project! lol.

For the back I used fleece to make it extra cozy.

I don’t have an official pattern for you all today, but here’s a quick summary of what i did:

The squares measure 6″x6″ and the strips are 2″ wide. I did a 7×7 formation for the quilt (49 squares total).

– You can cut six 6″x6″ squares from one 1/4 yard. This quilt has a a total of 49 squares, so you would need at least nine 1/4 yard assorted Halloween prints for the squares.

– You will need  1 1/4 yard for the black strips. Just cut them into 2″ x WOF strips, and then trim as needed.

– 1/2 yard for binding

– The quilt measures about 51″ x 51″. (I used fleece which has a 60″ WOF as opposed to the normal 42″, so I only needed 1 1/2 yards fleece for the backing).

Happy Halloween! 🙂

The only thing cuter than the quilt, is Simon’s smile. The best projects are always the ones we make for our families.

This quilt is cute as can be. I too am obsessed with Halloween. Thank you for sharing this project and instructions. Do you quilt the three layers like an all cotton quilt and is shrinkage a problem? I’ve been thinking about making a fleece backed quilt, they sound so warm.
