Weekend Quilt

Just wanted to share this bright and cheery quilt that I made over the weekend. I just finished binding it earlier today.

I was inspired by these fabrics that I found at Whimsy Quilts, a local (but online only) fabric shop on Etsy. They have a lot of fresh and bright custom bundles. They also sell a lot of Lecien brand which I personally love and made this quilt a couple years ago using Lecien’s Flower Sugar collection.

Ethan was with his Grandma, so this was ME time. My initial plan was to get my hair and nails done right after work, but last minute I opted to stay home and eat Easter candies and quilt.  I don’t regret the latter part…

Beautiful colors, just in time for Spring!

I used my Quilt as you Go method which I’m teaching classes on. I can’t get enough of it!

This is while I was binding earlier. I ordered these new binding clips not because I needed them, but because they’re so stinkin’ cute and red is my favorite color. 😉 I admit they did come in handy and it beats using pins like I normally do.

Anyway, here’s some more lovely pictures. I’m really loving the pop of color this quilt brings to Seattle’s grey skies.

I used flannel for the backing which is my new favorite backing material. Maybe it’s a Pacific Northwest thing; we love our flannel! 😉 One thing for sure is that quilts are supposed to be cozy, and flannel makes them even cozier!

Happy quilting everyone!

This is adorable ! Love the fabric and colors! I like the quilt as you go too but have never seen it this way. Very nice!

It's beautiful! And thanks for the flannel love…I'm finishing a quilt for my daughter who lives in Portland and I used a pale blue gingham-looking flannel on the back. I've been second-guessing myself about it but feel much better now!

I've been thinking about using flannel as backing too but I was worried it would get all pilly after a few washes. Have you noticed that in your quilts or do they stay nice looking?

Hi Sam – the flannel seems to keep up really well so far. I buy my flannel (and all my fabrics) from local boutique shops so it's always better quality.

What an adorable springy quilt! I love the Flower Sugar line. It's so fun!

I'm with you on the easter candy. The easter M&Ms caught my eye at Target the other day. My mistake was buying them (I'm supposed to be on WW!). It's in my jar labeled "Inspiration" next to my sewing machine. I need to move it farther away. Tee hee!

Thanks! I know, I've always been a sucker for holiday candies. Must be all the pretty colors. : )

I love this…. it makes me smile! I've been decorating in my house for spring, and using a lot of these colors. I'm also in the PNW, and we need that bright pop of color with the way the weather's been this week!
