Chevron Curtains and my 12 lb. Janome

The Chevron curtains puts a nice finishing touch  to my new crafting space! I still need to make curtains for the storage on the bottom right side of the picture above to help hide all my crap. The shelf unit under the table has wheels and I plan on putting a red cutting mat on the top so I can roll it out when I’m ready to cut. This picture looks so pristine, lol. Wait until I start sewing in it and make a mess. I cant wait! 😉

You’ll also notice my new sewing machine! Along with my new crafting space I wanted to get a new sewing machine to really start fresh. I also wanted something lighter, and this ‘lil guy weighs only 12 lbs! My other machine (Pfaff Grand Quilter) weighs almost 30 lbs. and is semi-industrial. After weeks of shopping for a sewing machine (i tried the Pfaff Smarter and Brother machines, and Bernina) I decided to go with this one. I totally winged it too as I bought it online without having had tested it first. So far I am so happy with my choice…it sews like butter, it has a start/stop button, an up/down needle, AND it was less than $300!
Anyway, if anyone is interested to hear more about my new Janome let me know and I can do a post.
Later!

If that's the dc1050 then I am all ears. I am thinking of getting it for my daughter for Christmas. She is 7 and sews on my Janome. The needle up/down and speed control functions are the main reason. I'd love to hear more.

Hi Jamie – it IS the dc1050! I'll be sure to do a post about it (I've sewn smaller projects with it so far and i love it, but I haven't done a quilt yet), and so far I'm so impressed. I would recommend it as a beginner sewing machine because it sews smoothly and it's very easy to work with, and you can't beat the price. Thanks for your comment! 🙂

I love your space! I have the Janome 3018 and absolutely love it! I've had it about 5 years and no problems ever!

I looooove your space! And you will adore your Janome. They are good machines. Happy Sewing!

P.S. you need to mess it up a bit. You're making us look bad. Hahahahahahaahahaha!

You know, I never would have thought to use Chevron fabric for curtains. But, my goodness! They look good! Congrats on your lovely new crafting/sewing space. 🙂

I am glad you took time to enjoy the little one. Working with a new baby is the hardest job in the world. I love your new crafting space. The nice bright light from the windows makes up for lack of size. Your drawer unit caught my eye. I think maybe I need to go shopping! I have a Janome 2030QDC and I love it. It is great for quilting.

Your new space looks great….but…where is all your STUFF? You know, the ever wondering scissors, pins (you have to have those on hand), all the rulers (I count 5 here), the box for scraps (has to be handy to throw all the leftovers in..)…. I could go on, but I will not. Enjoy your new, bright space!

ah, my stash. I was wondering if anyone would ask about it. Well, it's def not in the picture, lol. I'm in the process of organizing my stash, like i said, I'm really starting fresh. In fact I've donated a lot of my fabric, only so i can buy more of course. 😉 As for my ever wandering scissors and collection of rulers, they're all tucked away in that new cabinet i have under my desk, along with over 1,000 pins.

Good post on chevern curtains, the best thing is goals are focused rather than resolutions. Article is too informative and cover almost all the necessary factors.

I just found your website and find it delightful. I'm fairly new to sewing. I started out on an old metal singer from the 60's and just got a new Janome DC1050 for my birthday. Although I really liked the old Singer, this Janome is awesome. I want to start to try some quilting. Any suggestions on what kind of foot I should use to quilt? I keep finding conflicting information. Thanks so much, I'm so glad I found your site!

Hi Tasha! I'm happy to hear you want to try some quilting – i have a feeling you will get the quilting bug once you start. 🙂 To piece together a quilt top, you'll always want to use a 1/4" seam allowance. They sell generic feet that have a quarter inch guide that you can buy. Or with Janome, you can use the standard presser foot and put the stitch width to about 6.5, then just guide the edge of the fabric along the presser foot and you'll get a 1/4" seam allowance. For the actual quilting part (this is when you sew your three layers together: quilt top, batting and backing fabric), you'll need to get an even-feed walking foot as our Janome didn't come with one. Here's the one I bought and it works like a gem: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003EMLDX4/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00 hope this helps!

OHH!! I have been looking all over the internet for information about this machine! I wanted to verify that it really does weigh just 12 pounds – the weight varies with each website! (some have 12lb, 15lb or even 18lb!) Your room looks nice and sunny – with a view to create!
