February Fabric Giveaway!

Today my latest Moda Bakeshop Tutorial posted (yippee!)! My tutorial is called “Jelly Roll Rug“, so please check it out if you get a chance! As the tutorial requires only 1 Jelly Roll and a few other misc. items, I thought it’d be fun to do a Jelly Roll giveaway so you can make a rug yourself, or make whatever you want!

Feel free to participate in this fun giveaway – there’s a 1st place and 2nd place winner!

The 1st place winner will get the above Jelly Roll (“Giddy” by Sandy Gervais, perfect for Valentine’s day!). To participate in this giveaway, all you have to do is answer the two questions below:

  1. What is your favorite fabric pre-cut? (please use the voting buttons below)
  2. What types of fabrics do you like best? (e.g. floral, earth tones, contemporary prints, country-themed, bright and fresh, etc.). Please post your answer as a comment to this post.

The second place winner will get a Fairy Frost charm pack (see below) – don’t you just love sparkly fabric? It catches my eye just like diamonds. πŸ˜‰

This giveaway will end on Sunday, February 6th. The first and second place winner will be drawn at random. I’ll post the winners on Monday, February 7th and will ship the prizes out that week (yes, I’ll ship international too).

Thank you for participating! And don’t forget to check out my MBS post here. If anything, you’ll get to see a bonus picture of my ‘lil fluff ball Paige, modeling the Jelly Roll Rug. πŸ˜‰

Happy Sewing!

  7. Kwilt Noob February 3, 2011 at 11:13 am #

I think I would have to say I'm a "bright, fresh, contemporary" kind of gal. I love fabrics that reveal a bit of humor. Sherbet Pips is a good example.

  8. Angela February 3, 2011 at 11:23 am #

My favorite at the moment is polka dots. I have been loving these fabrics for well over a year. Other than them, I'm drawn to girly fabric. Could be florals, stripes, plaid.

  9. Vroomans' Quilts February 3, 2011 at 11:30 am #

I love polka dots – balancers, borders, and great for bindings.

  10. Jamie February 3, 2011 at 11:31 am #

    Geometries!!

  11. Anne February 3, 2011 at 11:35 am #

Lately I have really been drawn to bright, contemporary designs. But I always love flowers and polka dots because, well, I'm a girl!

  12. Eileen February 3, 2011 at 11:36 am #

Jera, I was at the Moda Bake Shop this morning and love the jelly roll rug…I'm going to give it a try this weekend. As far as fabrics, bright and fresh!

  13. Peach Rainbow February 3, 2011 at 11:38 am #

Actually I love most of the pre-cuts.
Jelly rolls, Charm packs & FQ bundles are on the top πŸ˜€ but because of the voting I had to choose only one.
Then I like Bright & fresh Florals πŸ™‚
Thank you so much for the chance!

  14. Lorraine February 3, 2011 at 11:41 am #

I am in my Civil War repro's phase at the moment…but am also really drawn to bright with white for a fresh clean look….love the rug..I am sure my dog would love it as well!

  15. Sandra Γ€lvarez February 3, 2011 at 11:43 am #

I've always liked flowers and pastel colours, but lately I find myself being keen on all kind of patterns – squares, polka dots, lines… I think they can be apllied to any knid of project. As for colours, I'm a big fan of blue and anything bluish, especially when combined with cream.

But trying new types of fabric is always worth, ain't it?

  16. mefutch February 3, 2011 at 11:45 am #

My favorite fabrics are split. Because I do Charity Baby Quilts, I like Brights & Novelty. But, personally, my favorite colors are fall colors: Brown, Green, Gold, with a touch of Forest Green/Navy/Burgandy. Let's face it – I like a lot of fabrics!

  17. foodmathquilts February 3, 2011 at 11:46 am #

Hmmm … my stash would tell you that I like bright colours, but I am working on a beautiful floral BOM quilt in soft colours at the moment.
I'm trying to use more neutrals (strange I know!) I think this is because I got started quilting with just remnants – bit I like how a solid or neutral brings the whole piece together.

  18. Clara February 3, 2011 at 11:48 am #

I could never narrow it down to one type I love them all. I usually am attracted to floral but I could have them all!

  19. Stacey February 3, 2011 at 11:51 am #

I think it depends on what project I'm working on, but I suppose I go for more Contemporary fabric.

  20. Betty February 3, 2011 at 11:53 am #

Hi, my favourite pre cut is probably the Jelly Roll, because it's so differtent to what I'd normally cut.
Floral is my real love, but depending on the project, it could also be batik.
My favourite colours are bright and fresh!

  21. gill February 3, 2011 at 11:58 am #

Florals and geometric art the moment!
    Love your tutorial at MBS

  22. Emily February 3, 2011 at 11:58 am #

I'm fairly new to sewing, and am still finding my favs – so far, I seem to be going for contemporary floral fabric, but I have been developing quite a stash!

  23. Melissa February 3, 2011 at 12:00 pm #

What a cute puppy! I like modern prints and gravitate towards bright ones contrasted with black πŸ™‚

  24. Louanne February 3, 2011 at 12:02 pm #

Right now I am loving anything with letters or words on it – oh, and the ever popular polka dots. I really liked your mat tutorial on MBS!

  37. Willa February 3, 2011 at 12:30 pm #

Jelly rolls are favorite at the moment.

I like clear colors….contemporary. Batiks remain high on my list.

  38. MissaB26 February 3, 2011 at 12:30 pm #

I would say florals and country, but when I look at what I have created lately it's all over the style spectrum. I think that's why I like the Bake Shop products, it's a convenient way to work outside my "comfort" zone and know that everything is going to work together. Great project – adding your blog to my regular reads!

  39. deborah February 3, 2011 at 12:32 pm #

I am forcing myself to move toward bright cheerful fabrics, there are so many to select from right now! But, that said, I love to make scrap quilts, using any and all colors and styles (I just love fabric!)

  40. Melissa February 3, 2011 at 12:32 pm #

I really like the modern prints. I am really loving stripes lately paired with a coordinating print:) I am new to precuts but am loving FQs and charms so far. I would love to play with jelly rolls but haven't gotten there yet. Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway:)

  41. Orcsmom February 3, 2011 at 12:38 pm #

Love the rug idea!! I love Victoria prints, but am branching out to the newer prints. I love working with jelly rolls, they make my life much simplier, after all, I rather be sewing than cutting!! Hugs!!

    Pam

  42. Wilma NC February 3, 2011 at 12:42 pm #

  43. D'Anna February 3, 2011 at 12:48 pm #

I love Japanese prints right now! Just LOVE them! : )
    Thank you!

  44. Tiffany @ Another Pie In The Sky February 3, 2011 at 12:49 pm #

The fabric I like really depends on my mood. I like distressed/grungy looking material. Paisley's, some floral, polka dots…

  45. Debbie February 3, 2011 at 12:54 pm #

Wow, such a hard question! LOL, I seem to be drawn to solids and dots/stripes. I love fresh bold colors, blues and oranges. But I LOVE that giddy line, not because of valentines day but it's blue/red/pink, my favorite color combos! Thanks for the chance – and I'm making your rug for me soon to be new sewing room!

I am all about the bright colors! Although they match nothing in my house πŸ™‚ I love your rug. But I can not imagine walking on anything that awesom.

  52. Leah February 3, 2011 at 1:10 pm #

I loved your woven rug tutorial on MBS. Very clever, I will have to try that. My favorite types of fabric are bright jewel tones, and pastel 1930 repros. I seem to go from one end of the spectrum to the other on my two favorite fabrics to buy.

  53. Janet February 3, 2011 at 1:12 pm #

Love the MBS Recipe – what a clever idea! I love most fabrics, but lately have been really into the brights and contemporaries.

Thanks so much for the opportunity!

    jfquilts@gmail.com

  54. SewLindaAnn February 3, 2011 at 1:12 pm #

I always go back to the neutrals with deep, rich accents. Inbetween, I use it all depending on the mood. Loved your tute on the bake shop. I had just made a couple of things with a weaving method starting from the middle. I'm going to try your idea next.

  64. Cindy February 3, 2011 at 1:32 pm #

I have to admit, this is my first time visiting – came via Moda Bake Shop – I absolutely LOVED your jelly roll rug. I can see that it is definitely on my "Have To Do Soon" list. It's fabulous !!!!

My fav fabrics are definitely earthtones. I am a "Down to Earth" kind of girl so fabrics that don't "ZING" too much are right up my alley.

LOL – although I just found myself stepping "outside the box" and purchased some bright silks to make a wall hanging.

  65. Sewhappy February 3, 2011 at 1:32 pm #

I am loving jelly rolls right now as it is surprising what you can do with strips of fabric. (I am converted I think as it used to be layers) I love brights and florals. (this can also change)

  66. Tiff Blakey February 3, 2011 at 1:33 pm #

I love bright and fresh fabrics. I really like your jelly roll rug. I'm trying to figure out where my house needs one.

  69. Sunnybec February 3, 2011 at 1:44 pm #

I like a mix of colours I like browns and aquas and pinks and browns and pinks and greens. I love charm squares but have just used a jelly roll and can see lots of uses for these too. Thanks for a chance to win.

  70. BIG February 3, 2011 at 1:46 pm #

Love bright, fresh colours with stripes or dots an few flowers!
Thanks for giving oversea people a chance to win!

  71. Megan February 3, 2011 at 1:49 pm #

My fabric selection seems to be seasonal. In fall I gravitate towards the brown, oranges and golds. Winter I like the reds and greens (and flannel!), Spring takes me to the wonderfully bright florals, and summer I love the pastels. So obviously I have a very eclectic fabric stash–but I can always find room for more.
    Thanks for the giveaway–
P.S.—LOVE the rug recipe at the Bake Shop.

  72. Liesel February 3, 2011 at 1:50 pm #

I think I'm definitely a contemporary fabric girl. I would like to try making more modern quilts with fabric that I normally wouldn't gravitate toward. Thanks for the giveaway!

  73. sunnyday1k February 3, 2011 at 1:50 pm #

I love just about any fabric that makes me smile!

  74. Wendy February 3, 2011 at 1:50 pm #

It's hard to pick a favorite really but I'd have to go with brights and usually I prefer shades of blue. And dots are at the top of my list at the moment.

I read your woven rug tutorial and SO want to try it!

Thanks for a chance to win some great fabric.

  75. Kelly February 3, 2011 at 1:56 pm #

I am always drawn to the bright and fresh colors. But, I just bought a bunch of the Moda fabrics that you used for this woven floor rug. These more earthy tones are new for me!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  76. Lorraine February 3, 2011 at 1:58 pm #

I'm a bit eclectic in my fabic choices. But I'd have to say contempory right now. I'm lovin the green hues I'm seeing in the new lines. The rug is cute. I would like to try this technique in placemats and a table runner w/ an applique motif on the corner. Thank you for the inspiration.

  77. Tiffany February 3, 2011 at 2:06 pm #

Less cutting for me to do, makes it quicker to get to the sewing part!

  93. Marianne, aka Ranger Anna February 3, 2011 at 2:44 pm #

Being a ranger, I'm always drawn to the earth tones–and with a hubby and two sons, there's a lot of manly-man stuff around here. I've got the three of them 'well-covered' now, so it's time for some girly-girl stuff for me! I'm going to try something in pinks and purples next–a super stretch for me!

  94. Jeanna February 3, 2011 at 2:50 pm #

  96. Lisa February 3, 2011 at 2:56 pm #

I love, love, love contemporary prints. Even though I am new to quilting, I find myself drawn to these more so than the traditional earth tones. I also find I am drawn to bright colors, which is so not like my personality. I love the contrast of black with bright colors as well. I also love that charm pack. If I don't win, I'm going to definitely have to buy that.

I really love all the bright and fresh prints I'm seeing lately! But, if I'm ever going to sew for my living room (which desperately needs it!), I need to get me some earth tones.

  115. Laney February 3, 2011 at 3:44 pm #

I love gingham and floral cotton prints. I love how soft they are and how easy it is to mix and match. I have piles and piles of it the two and have to have my husband go with me if I need something in particular so that I don't get distracted by them. *sigh*

  116. Maria2 February 3, 2011 at 3:46 pm #

That's a tough question – I love all fabric, but probably comtemporary prints are my favorite. I love your woven rug – it is such a different idea, yet absolutely beautiful.

  117. Ashley Vaerst February 3, 2011 at 3:46 pm #

I have to say that my fabric style changes based on what I am making. If I am making purses or bags I like funky, bright fabric. If I am sewing for my house I like lines like Fandango by Moda. My fabric style changes with my mood.

  118. Magicaldamselfly February 3, 2011 at 3:51 pm #

Oh my this one is hard for me because I really don't have a favorite I love them all it just depends on what I am making but if I must choose just one it would probably be contemporary. But I do have lots of girlie girls in my family so those fairy frost look amazing and they look very pretty in whimsical girlie quilts.

  119. Martina February 3, 2011 at 3:53 pm #

I love fabriclines like bliss, pure, sunkissed. Something happy, flowery, fresh…

Oh my, it's hard to say. I love florals and yet I love earth tones as well. I guess the more you quilt the more you just love just about any fabric.

  168. Shauna February 3, 2011 at 7:21 pm #

I love the Giddy Jelly Roll!!! I have been eyeing this for sometime, just have not got to the checkout point!!!
Fav Fab – well I will admit that I love it all, I really like the reproduction and I am starting to go to the Brights, but I find that my current fabric selection is DARK colours, so I had to go to my LQS and pick up Pinks and Browns to make something.

  169. JanetK February 3, 2011 at 7:22 pm #

I love the contemporary prints, but seem to buy more florals than I ever plan to, in a mix of earthy and brights.

I like florals both bright and subdued. Your new MBS recipe is wonderful. I plan to make one, I just can't decide which room it would go in; so maybe I'll just have to make more.

  176. VickiT February 3, 2011 at 8:09 pm #

I saw your Jelly Roll Rug earlier today and loved it. Great idea! Thank you.

So far I've been buying Charm Packs mostly but am starting to lean toward wanting to buy Jelly Rolls more and more. I keep seeing so many great quilts utilizing those too.

My favorite fabric choices vary depending on what I'm working on. I am loving the bright and bold fabrics lately though. I tend to buy almost all other than country types but looking in my stash of fabrics, I don't have many basics and earth tones so I need to get more of them.

Thanks again for such an awesome recipe and the chance to win these fabrics.

  195. Barb February 3, 2011 at 10:31 pm #

It's pretty obvious from looking at my stash that I like florals best! But there also seems to be a little love affair on the side with plaids and wovens (just a little bit country, I guess). Your woven rug is so clever!

  196. Chris February 3, 2011 at 10:34 pm #

  204. Ladybug February 3, 2011 at 11:17 pm #

I really can't say there is any one type of fabric I like best. I am not a big fan of autumn tones but generally there is quite a large range I enjoy.
For me it all depends on the colours and designs at the time – whether they take my fancy or not.

I do however tend to gravitate toward most Japanese fabrics and currently I have a penchant for chocolate and aqua together.

    Jera,
I am also a girl with a serious fabric addiction- I love batiks and florals- I know that they are not necessarily compatible but those are my two favorite kinds of fabrics.

The fairy frost fabrics are beautiful- I used one of the blue fairy frost fabrics in a quilt- it was fabulous in it.
Thanks for the opportunity to win such nice prizes.
    Regards from Western Canada,
    Anna

Love the 30's reproduction fabrics. Currently making a redwork quilt from red and white jelly rolls plus embroidered squares. Really a fun quilt. Thanks in advance if I win.

I'm going through a delightful bright cheerful fun fabric and beautiful pastels stage right now, but lets face it…I love fabric, LOL. The feel, the thrill of laying it out on the table, floor or bed just to take in the beauty of it and fondle it while dreaming up wonderful projects that it will become. Fabric ROCKS!!! Hugs…

I love any fabric that is bright and colorful. Thanks!

  364. Hayley February 6, 2011 at 5:31 am #

Its really a toss up. I love the rich earthy jewel tone type fabrics. But I also love fabrics that are bright, especially this time of year. Biggest draw for me is the color red. So, if a collection has red in it, I fall in love with it.

Polka-dots are my favorite!!! Any color, any size dot (even ovals or wonky dots!)

Love your run…I think I need one in my new sewing room πŸ™‚ Thanks for the giveaway!

Jelly rolls are so versatile, and have enough yardage to accomplish many things. I love most colors, but I always lean towards the brights. Congrats on your tutorial on Moda, and thanks for the giveaway!

Yum……….so hard to choose but right now it's bright and fresh, 2 granddaughters are having an influence! I also love any pre-cuts, they live on my shelf right in front of the sewing machine so I can enjoy them until I use them. Currently working on hexies for GFG, by hand and loving the repros! Thanks for the MBS tutorial, made one up last night and looks beautiful as my bath mat!
