High Tea Blog Hop – Week 3 recap

photo-sep-13-11-15-34-am

It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that I was (nervously) contacting people on instagram to participate in my very first blog tour. And now here I am recapping the final week (week 3) of all the amazing projects that everyone made using my first fabric collection, High Tea.

Before I get started, I wanted to extend a very warm and heartfelt thank you to all the designers/makers that participated in making and sharing a project for my first blog tour. It meant the world to me, and I am forever grateful and thankful for the friendship (beyond Instagram) we have formed.

This has truly been a one of a kind experience for me, getting to see all these inspiring projects. I hope you’ve all enjoyed it as well. That being said, let’s get to it! Below is a recap of week 3’s projects. Sorry I’m a bit late posting these… πŸ™‚

8/21 – Greg Jones of Grey Dogwood Studio

8/22 – Cristi Cooper of Whimsy Quilts and Fabrics

8/23 – Kristin Esser of They Grow Up Too Fast

8/24 – Tiffany Behmer of Fanny Lu Designs

8/26 – Veronica of Vivid Felicity

8/27 – Wynn Tan of Zakka Art

8/28 – me! πŸ™‚

Please note that all of the photos I’m sharing were taken by the respective designers named before each project. πŸ™‚Β

On 8/21 I had the very talented Greg Jones of Grey Dogwood Studio. You can see his high Tea blog post, here.

I’ve been aΒ  fan of Greg’s instagram for a while now, so I didn’t think twice about asking Greg to join my high tea party.

His excitement to use my fabrics meant the world to me.

I snagged all these gorgeous pictures from Greg’s blog. These paper-pieced scallops are gorgeous!

Greg also made a 2nd pleated pillow using this tutorial from my blog. I’m always happy to see older tutorials still being used! πŸ™‚ Thakn you so much Greg for the beautiful projects!

On 8/22 my friend Cristi of Whimsy Quilts shared this beautiful quilt. She mixed in some Tilda fabrics with High Tea to make this stunning, low volume quilt for her mother.

Cristi is also from the Pacific Northwest, like me! We met on instagram because I was always spending all of my money on her online shop, Whimsy Quilts and Fabrics. ;pΒ  She’s moving away from selling fabrics and towards other creative ventures such as her Modern Makers Pattern club.

A busy mom to 3 beautiful kids and running her own business, I felt so lucky to have Cristi say “yes!” to participating in my tour. Thank you, Cristi!

On 8/23 Kristin Esser of They Grow Up Too Fast shared several beautiful projects shown below. Kristin Esser and Minki Kim just came out with a fabulous book called Sew Illustrated, where I shared Minki’s amazing quilt that she made for her daughter in week 1’s high tea blog tour post.

Kristin and Minki took so many gorgeous photos I had to share them all!

high-tea_kristin-7-1024x683

This adorable tea mat was made using the embroidery technique from their new book, Sew Illustrated.

high-tea_kristin-8-1024x683

Macaroons, fresh flowers and tea! I think everyone needs to make time for tea. Looks heavenly! I love this tea cozy that Kristin made using the ‘tea time’ print in the cottage blue colorway. Love the lace details and red binding.

high-tea_kristin-10-1024x683

You can’t go wrong with a half square triangle quilt, it’s such of a classic and versatile design. πŸ™‚ The wavy quilting makes it look super cozy. Thank you, Kristin, for all this loveliness!

high-tea_kristin-14-683x1024-652x791

On 8/24 my friend Tiffany Behmer of www.FannyLuDesigns.com shared the following projects.

You may have already seen the infamous High Tea Crochet Quilt below, which Tiffany made a well-written and thorough tutorial just for YOU over at her blog. And yes, she finally was able to finish the tutorial – sorry for the delay on that, totally my fault! I was hoarding the crochet quilt in my home and she needed it back to reverse engineer the finishing instructions. Anyway, the updated and completed tutorial can be found HERE, thanks to Tiffany!

My husband got me a crochet class at a local yarn shop months ago (for Mother’s Day, to be exact :-[]), but I haven’t had a chance to take it yet! But one of these days I will so that I can start incorporating crochet to my quilting, because look at this loveliness!Β  Isn’t it amazing?! You can find more pretty photos and a link to the tutorial of this crochet quilt, here.

Tiffany also made these adorable applique tea Towels! So fitting for High Tea! πŸ™‚ The crochet quilt and tea towels were both featured at Spring Quilt Market when I debuted my fabric collection. I was so lucky to have Tiffany’s help!

img_20160507_132739-768x768

I just love seeing handmade baby gifts! These are baby burp clothes using the cottage blue and brown sugar colorways, which can totally work for a baby boy. πŸ™‚ Be sure to check out Tiffany’s High Tea Inspiration blog post to see what other lovely projects she made using High Tea. Thank you, Tiffany!

img_20160613_173012-768x768

On 8/26, Veronica of Vivid Felicity made this lovely ruffle pillow that was hand quilted and embroidered with the cutest little tea cup detail! I snagged all of these beautiful photos from Veronica’s blog, where you can read more about her High Tea post here.

img_2085-1

Lucky me was gifted this pillow! πŸ™‚ Thank you again, Veronica!

img_0725

Had to share this lovely photo Veronica took of my High Tea Collection.

img_7310

And here’s that tea pot detail I mentioned. You can learn more about doing drawings with your sewing machine from this book, mentioned previously.

img_7798

On 8/27 Wynn Tan of Zakka Art made this beautiful, hand sewn zipper pouch.

img_3403

Wynn is incredibly talented (and patient!) as she hand sews a lot of her projects!

img_3449

You can read more about this lovely pouch over at Wynn’s blog, Zakka Art.

img_3480

The details on all of these High Tea projects are just amazing! Here’s the inside of the pouch. Thank you so much, Wynn, for the lovely project!

Lastly, on 8/28 I did my stop on the High Tea Blog hop! πŸ™‚ You can read about that here.

My Stop on the High Tea Blog Hop :)

Photo Aug 27, 4 06 58 PM

The best gift of designing fabrics is seeing the creations made with them. These last 3 weeks watching my High Tea blog hop have been truly inspiring. I feel so blessed to have had all the participation from so many talented makers & designers. You can see a recap of all the beautiful projects shared from week 1 and week 2 of my High Tea blog hop, and I’ll be posting week 3 soon. But first, I have a little stop of my own. πŸ™‚

edit-1-01

This is a special sneak peak of my second quilt as you go book in the works.

Photo Aug 27, 4 05 46 PM

I’ve been working away on this specific quilt every night for the last couple of months. I wish I could share more, but here are some glimpses and up close photos of my fabrics.

Photo Aug 24, 1 08 41 PM

This wouldn’t be a proper post without throwing in a couple glamour shots of my quilting buddy, Paige.

Photo Aug 24, 1 07 14 PM

Thanks to all of your support, my second book should be out next year, along with my 2nd fabric collection. Thank you so much.Β  I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing if not for all of you.

edit-2

Over the years I’ve really become infatuated with vintage style quilt and dishes, drawing lots of inspiration from them (hence my first fabric collection called High Tea). πŸ˜‰ My 2nd book will reflect my love for all things vintage, while putting a modern spin to it.

Photo Aug 24, 1 01 18 PM

My first QAYG book was very modern with improvisational quilting and quick cutting techniques. My 2nd book will build upon the first with an additional QAYG joining technique, but it also takes on a more classic approach with timeless and traditional heirloom style blocks.

My husband and I read your reviews on my first book , and we listened. Thank you to all that have taken the time to post a review. Reading the comments where people found so much creativity from the technique, or are now quilting because of the book (where it was once too daunting), encouraged me to write book 2. Thank you so much.

That’s all I can say for now. πŸ™‚

edit-3-01

The red fig and dusty pink colorways from my High Tea collection have been my favorite to work with.

Photo Aug 24, 1 56 44 PM

I hope you’ve enjoyed my High Tea party stop. πŸ™‚ By now my fabric should have shipped to shops that ordered it, so please be on the lookout. Some shops that I know of that carry my fabrics can be found here.

I’ll be back with a recap from week 3 next.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

High Tea Blog Hop – Week 2 recap

Photo Aug 25, 8 05 19 PM

Hello! I am back with a recap of my week 2 High Tea blog hop guests! This is a great way for you to see all the projects that were revealed last week (week 2), and for me to document all of these beautiful creations on my blog. You can review Week 1 here, which was absolutely breathtaking.

Thanks for following along, and thank you so much for your kind comments on my last post. It’s great to hear that this blog hop has given some of you fresh ideas and opened your eyes to other creative bloggers.

My week 2 High Tea guests are as follows. I sent each of them fabric from my new collection called High Tea for Lecien Fabrics, and they all made some lovely projects out of them!

8/15 – Faith Essenburg of Sarana Ave

8/16 – Monica Skov of It’s Just Sewing

8/17 – Susan Ache of @yardgrl60

8/18 – Ange Hamilton of A Little Patchwork

8/19 – Peta Peace of She Quilts A Lot

8/20 – Katy Yates of Sweet Littles Handmade

I’m writing on a time crunch trying to get this done before my kiddos get home, so I’ll get right to it! Get ready for yet another heavy dose of quilting and sewing inspiration!

On 8/15 Faith Essenburg of Sarana Ave shared this super sweet reversible apron and oven mitten.

img_0256

Faith used the cottage blue colorway for this apron. Please check her blog for a fee tutorial!

This oven mitten is so darling and if it were mine, I would never use it. I would oogle it instead.Β  Too cute to use!

On 8/16 my dear friend Monica Skov of It’s Just Sewing made this incredible quilted teepee that can also be used as a quilted duvet cover. How creative is THAT?!

Find a thorough tutorial for you all on how to make this teepee over at her blog, here.

Monica and I became good friends back in 2012 when I worked part time at her sewing studio in West Seattle. Although the studio is no longer around, I have some wonderful memories there. Her studio really stirred up my creativity, and is where the birth of my first book, Quilt As-You-Go Made Modern, began. Monica and my husband encouraged me to write a book, and so I did!

My next guest on 8/17 was Susan Ache of @yardgrl60 on instagram. I’m always oogling over the intricate and timeless quilts that she cranks out on instagram, so it was an honor that she said “yes!” to be a part of my high tea party. πŸ™‚

IMG_1077

Susan made the stunning quilt above, with embroidered floral blocks. I’m honored she chose my fabrics to pair with these gorgeous embroidered blocks!

On 8/18 I had Ange Hamilton of A Little Patchwork as my High Tea guest.

img_1363

Ange made this adorable patchwork tea cozy with a dresden plate on the back. Please see her blog for pattern details.

img_0928 img_1356

On 8/19 the very talented Peta Peace of She Quilts A Lot shared this incredible quilt. Lucky me had the pleasure of meeting Peta at Spring Quilt Market, and I regret not having more time to chat with Peta amongst the hustle and bustle of it all.

High Tea Peta Peace

Peta took the time to write a free tutorial for this quilt which you can find HERE. It’s a beautiful, well-written tutorial so please check it out.

High Tea Quilt - Peta Peace

I love how different everyone’s creations have turned out so far. Earlier I described this quilt looking very “sophisticated and proper”, just like High Tea! ;-p Peta used my doile print which is more of a solid, from my High Tea Collection.

Love the stippling…!

High-Tea-4

On 8/20 I had Katy Yates of Sweet Littles Handmade! Katy lives in Washington (just like me!), and we met for the first time years ago when she took one of my quilt-as-you-go classes in Ballard. She makes the sweetest dolls you ever will see…

…see for yourself!!!

image1

…eeep! Ahhh-dorable!!!!

image2

You can purchase these sweet littles at her shop, Sweet Littles Handmade.

Whew! Wasn’t that a load of inspiration! πŸ™‚ I hope you’re enjoying the blog hop as much as I am. Seeing people make things out of my fabric is truly an honor.

Still to come on my High Tea Blog Hop is as follows. Click here for links to all the maker’s blogs. Please stay tuned for my final week 3 recap. πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!

8/10 was Jemima Flendt of Tied With a Ribbon. I had the pleasure of meeting Jemima briefly at quilt market and she is as lovely as her projects. πŸ™‚ Please check out her blog post for more photos and pattern details on this pillow. I’ve been scared to try paper piecing, but I’m seeing a lot of it in this blog tour and it’s quite inspiring. I want to keep this pillow for myself! : )

Deborah Russell of @missluella1 took the gorgeous photo above, and made the strippy quilt (below) using a QAYG pattern from my book, Quilt As-You-Go Made Modern.

Next up is the talented Minki Kim of Minki’s Work Table. Okay, so this quilt below is seriously incredible and one of a kind. And I’ll tell you why…

minki kim

She took the drawings that her daughter made….

And then embroidered them! and then…

…made it into a quilt! Isn’t this the perfect heirloom quilt? I am honored that Minki chose my fabrics for her daughter’s quilt.

You can learn all about this technique from Minki’s new book, Sew Illustrated. I’m about to get myself a copy!

On 8/13, we had Rennee Lange of Sewn With Grace.

She cut out all these cute tea-cups with fusible backing ironed to the back…

And made this absolutely stunning quilt out of them! How fitting is this quilt for my High Tea collection?! Please check out her blog for more details, including the pattern.

Last, but (most definitely) not least, is Lisa Cox of A spoonful of Sugar. Lisa and her daughter have the sweetest blog where they share theirΒ  crafting creations and baking recipes.Β  Lisa made this adorable, and pretty much ‘picture perfect’ table topper using High Tea. Yet another project I want to keep all to myself! :-p

And the perfection doesn’t end there. Lisa also made this adorable sewing kit made out of hexies.

*sigh* Want.

I am incredibly gratefulΒ  and in awe to all the designers and crafters that made these lovely creations with my High Tea fabrics.

It’s Tea Time! High Tea Blog Tour Kickoff

high tea blog tour image 2-03

Yes, I am still alive! Sorry for the lack of posts lately.Β  I have been a busy bee making most of my updates on instagram and facebook these days.Β  It’s been a non-stop and fulfilling summer keeping up with my kiddos during the day, and working on my second book and my second fabric collection by night. I also have some exciting news that myself and a handful of very talented people have all been working on, and it officially kicks off tomorrow!

Tomorrow, Tuesday August 9th, is the start of my very first blog/instagram tour. High Tea Collection is my first fabric collection for Lecien Fabrics. It is starting to ship to fabric stores now, so please be on the lookout. πŸ™‚ Some shops that I’m aware of that carry my fabrics can be found here, but be sure to look online or at your local fabric shop as well.

What is a Blog/Instagram Tour?

In a nutshell, 18 very talented designers/makers have been having fun making something using my High Tea Fabrics! Starting tomorrow, each person will reveal what they made on Instagram (and their blog, if they have one). It will be 18 days of sewing inspiration!

Below is a list of the tour schedule, so you can follow along and join us for our Tea Party! Or to simplify it, you can just follow me @QuiltingintheRain on instagram, and I will be sure to share each and every one of their lovely projects on my feed, with links/tags to their page. I will also plan to do weekly updates and share their projects here on my blog. πŸ™‚

HighTeaBlogTour2016s

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I am truly thankful for everyone that has participated in my blog tour. These gals are seriously a very talented bunch. It was a lot of work leading up to it and now it officially starts tomorrow! I am forever grateful for the tremendous amount of support from my quilty instagram community.

With the days blurring by, my goal for today was to get this post out before the tour starts. And it’s only 12:07 am so I think I’m good to go (to sleep) πŸ˜‰

Thank you for stopping by, and I do hope you will join us for some High Tea these next few weeks! I assure you it will be full of eye candy, fabric loveliness and lots of sewing inspiration!
