RIP Paige

So I haven’t posted for months. That seems to be my norm these days because life gets busy. But this time my excuse is different. I’ve been skirting around having to post about how Paige left this world in November of 2018,  just before Thanksgiving. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you’ve probably already heard the news. But for some silly reason i’ve had a tough time posting it here.

So today’s post is dedicated to my quilting buddy, Paige.

I randomly remembered that I wrote this post THREE years ago when Paige was only 11 years old. It was my first blog post ever that I drafted on WordPress after I had switched over from the Blogger platform.  I decided not to publish it at the time because I was afraid people might think that Paige passed if they saw an entire post dedicated to her, haha! But i’ve just always loved photographing her. Anyway, the irony is that now the timing is right to share this with the world.

So here’s that post I wrote about Paige 3 years ago…

251

This post is dedicated all to Paige, because she’s such a diva. And she truly is my faithful quilting buddy. We’ve shared many late nights quilting together.

245

She may look like a puppy, but she’s already 11…

I found her from PetFinder when she was 2.5 years old.

266

Her favorite leisurely activity is resting on quilts, belly up.  Nowadays this is preferred more than a walk outside.

264 crop

Whenever I lay a quilt down, she’s the first to test it out. She never passes up the opportunity to shed her furrs on a fresh quilt.

258

At the site of food at the dinner table, she becomes a different dog. Her eyes turn into dark little orbs and head slightly tilts to the right with a slightly crazed look. Her eyes lock on to our every bite during dinner as to not miss one drop of food (which happens often with the kids).

254

…Oh hey, beautiful..

248

Some nicknames for Paige, other than my quilting buddy, are “nugg” (short for nugget) and “gyoza” (a Japanese dumpling).

247

Paige is the sweetest to my youngest son, Simon, who is almost 8 months. [he’s now 3.5!]  She is very gentle with him and always lays with him during tummy time. She treats him like her little pup and loves to groom Simon too! It just might be the sweetest thing.

246

Thank you, Paige for being an awesome quilting buddy and family member, and making people smile. You’ve all probably seen photos of her on my instagram and facebook. Now you know a little more about the little gyoza on my quilts 😉

[End post from 3 years ago.]

Three months have gone by since Paige passed. I was heartbroken at the time, but please don’t worry about me. I’m good and just want to cherish the memories i’ve had with her, which i’m SO SO thankful for. I will continue to cherish memories of Paige every Thursday on my Instagram and Facebook as a Throwback Thursday ode to Paige.

Also for the record, she passed away peacefully wrapped warmly in a quilt and in our arms.

For some business news, you can expect a subtle ode to Paige in my 5th fabric collection that will debut this Fall 2019.  <3

Big, warm hugs!

I lost my rescue feline Molly in September. We had her for 11 years. Not enough time. She took a little piece of my heart with her. I still miss her and will for sometime. She was my cat quilt. I am so sorry for your loss. blessings to you and your family.

You poor thing. My heart breaks for you. Even though it has been a few months, I am sure that it still hits you all over again sometimes. Please consider letting another rescue into your life and heart. I always looked for Paige in you posts and will miss her sweet little face and precious little tummy.

I remember when I first found your blog and your book and your beautiful fabrics, I instantly felt a connection when I saw the photos of sweet Paige. I too have a corgi, Momo, who is 11, and doesn’t have the white markings on top of her head, just like Paige. I know you miss her everyday.

My heart goes out to you. I have 3 fur babies and I love them so much. No one understands the love one can have of a dog unless they have one.

I did see on IG that your sweet Paige had passed. What a sad time for all of you. I love corgis, we’ve had them in our family for years and they are the sweetest little dogs. Anyone who has ever owned and loved a pet knows how deeply they touch and fill your life. This is a lovely tribute to your buddy Paige.

Most of us, your friends, know your pain so well. You know you are not alone. These wonderful beings are family. We include them in everything we do. They are so sweet and innocent and they just adore being doted on and loved.

The grieving does take a long long time. Paige was a beautiful girl. I adored her so. She is safe now.

Paige had a wonderful and happy life with you and your family. Being a dog lover, my heart goes out to you, but I’m so glad that you had each other. I, too, have an 11-year old keeshond that stays near me resting on my guestroom bed when I sew. Dogs are special guardians of us and give us unconditional love.

Sadly, I understand your painful loss too well. My sweet Meggie left this work on Labor Day of 2017 and I still miss her more than I knew was possible. Bless you in this healing process. ?

Such a darling girl. I don’t know why, but some of the IG/FB corgis just find a special place in my heart and Paige was one of those. So sad to hear she’s gone – but how wonderful for you to celebrate her every week. I just love looking back at photos of my Tess and she has been gone 7 years. (just FYI, I said NEVER AGAIN and now Quinn is 6 and Nash is 1.) XO

This was such a sweet Tribute to your sweet girl! I have never owned a dog but can definitely feel the love you had for her through your story and IG though the years.

They are just like our babies (as it should be) and they leave little paw prints on our hearts.

Thank you for sharing the memories of your sweet Paige. So much love–to her and from her. She’ll always be part of your family, and in time the happy memories will be so much stronger than the pain of losing her. At least that is how it has been for us, as we’ve said goodbye to the ones we love over the years. Sending heartfelt condolences.

I just read this now…deeply sorry for your loss. It’s hard losing a furry family member. Duni x.

I just read your post, which made me even sadder, as I was on a website where you can get your pet’s picture engraved into a necklace. I stopped to look at some pictures to upload and found that I had taken a screenshot of your instagram giveaway, last year. I had forgotten about it and decided to check your website out, when I saw the above. My heart was broken when we had put our cat down last summer after 10 years ( we got him when he was 6 weeks old). They become part of our family and when we do have a family, they are ALL our children. I wish you peace in your heart as you piece your quilts together, you know that she is there with you. I know that my Pippi is with me, as he also loved to test out my quilts when they were done. THANK YOU for opening yourself to us and for sharing the beauty of Paige.

Jera, I am so so sorry for the loss of Paige. Her spirit will never leave you. Each time you cuddle in one of your beautiful quilts, she will be right there with you.

  25. Susan February 22, 2019 at 4:55 am #

Jera and family. I, too, echo the sentiments of the previous posts at the passing of your sweet fur baby, Paige. She was a beautiful little lady and I know she will always be missed. Love is forever and she will forever be with all of you.

My tears fall with yours. It!s amazing how God’s love can be shared for someone you have never personally meet. Paige was indeed a sweet heart and will be missed by all who shared her.
