My first quilting project was made last Christmas (two table runners) and I've improvised two quilts since then. It's slow going, but, finding inspiration in blogland has been awesome, including here at Quilting in the Rain!

Love that fabric! I have been quilting for about 40 years. Eeek. I feel like I should have gotten more done after all that time. My first quilt involved squares of cotton, polyester, terry cloth, silk and I don't know what else. The "batting" was an old mattress pad and old towels. Well, I was a college student and poor at the time. 99% of my quilting is for charity or family. I have already "liked" you on Facebook šŸ˜€

Made a few in the years afterward, and have been obsessed with quilting for about 12 years, and it gets worse with each passing year! I've been dreaming of Terrain since I saw the first photos of it. Such gorgeous colors! Congrats on your MBS project, and thanks for sharing the lovely fabric!

I started patchwork and quilting 20 years ago.
Had two children and a busy job: I put my hobby on hold and put my stuff on the attic.
A year ago I retired (YES!!) and the next day all of my quilting stuff was in my study, then it became my sewing room. Slowly but surely my confidence is growing on sewing.
You've shared a lot of knowledge with us! I love that: it teaches me so much.
My favourite quilt patterns are: Tiffany Diamonds and Quilted Sugar Flowers.
They're not difficult and have a great effect!

As for the Terrain: I absolutely love that!
    Thanks for this great giveaway.

    Hi Jera,

I'm new here. Beautiful picture of you with your dog, by the way!

I am getting married next Summer and I would love to make a quilt as a wedding present for my husband-to-be. And, perhaps a family heirloom to pass down. I haven't quilted since I was in school but I love sewing and I love the colours of this fabric. I think it would be a fantastic project to help me keep my bridezilla tendencies in check until our big day and a way to focus my love!

I started quilting in 1968, mostly to keep busy at home with a small child. Things then became very busy at home and I took a 15 year hiatus while i raised my son. Now I am retired and wanting to keep busy at home again, so am I quilting again!

  49. Anonymous June 23, 2011 at 10:09 am #

I have watched my mother quilt up some amazing masterpieces, and finally tx myself that I really need to learn how to do this. So about 2 years ago I had my mother teach me the basics- and I have been hooked since. It's a great way for her and I to get together and just hang out and spend some quality time. I love the moda bake shop, because being new and a visual person, it makes quilting easier and fun!! I have printed out more patterns than I will ever have time to make( but I am only 36 so if I stop looking at the website for 10 years I may get them made up)! Kerrihorne@hotmail.com

  64. Home Designs by Amanda June 23, 2011 at 11:47 am #

Crafts have been a part of my hobbies since I was little…but not much sewing. In 2005, my husband bought me a sewing machine and I did some home decor things. Then in 2008, I made my first quilt…it was a rag quilt for my first baby. I didn't do much after that (fixing clothes, making a simple skirt, or other little things)until December 2010 when I wanted to make my second baby a rag quilt too…
I fell in love with creating with fabric and have been sewing alot…mostly quilted projects, but I still need to start a full size quilt. I'm hoping to start one soon!
Thanks for the giveaway! I'd love to win a jelly roll! I've only had one, and I got that from winning a gift certificate for a skirt I entered into our county fair…I used the certificate in December – I think that helped along my sewing resurgance!

  65. KristyLou June 23, 2011 at 11:49 am #

I have only been quilting about a year and a half. I love it. I am still pretty slow with it though.

  66. Johanne June 23, 2011 at 11:50 am #

    Started almost 2 years ago.
It's starting to get popular here in Spain. Unfortunately the fabric is boring (to my taste) and expensive. I love the fresh, bright fabric/colors and here it would cost like 20 USD a yard!!! I'm green with envy when I see the fabrics and prices you have in the US. I'm a little afraid of ordering because of the customs, maybe I should plan a trip to vissit you all and bring the suitcases back full of fabric. ; )
Thanks a lot for the giveaway. It's a lovely jelly roll.

Hi Jera, I and a friend did a beginners 9 patch quilting day workshop in the Spring of 2010 and I have been quilting ever since. It really is addictive and if I had more money, more time and more fabric I would do a lot more! I'd love to win the jelly roll and thanks for all your great tutorials.

I took my first quilting class when my daughter was in the second grade (she graduated from college last month). The teacher was awful and I didn't stick with it. I still have all of the blocks which were hand pieced. I used mauve. The blocks are monotone and totally boring. I have had spurts of interest over the years, but have only been quilting in earnest since I retired two years ago.

I learned to quilt as a young teen and have been quilting now for 40 years – Oh My!!! I had a lull in the 80's when my kids were little and I worked full time. I have been blessed to be able to work in a quilt shop for the past 10 years!!

I enjoy your blog – I love the encouragement it gives quilters of all levels!

I've sewn for a while now, and am just now starting to learn to quilt. I became interested in quilting after I received a baby quilt from my aunt for my daughter. I came across your blog while searching for quilting tutorials, and you have so much helpful information, I know I will be visiting often. As a newbie quilter, I think it would be fabulous to have that beautiful fabric to work with!

I have been quilting since I was 9 years old. I am now 35. 26 years. Mom would help me sew small quilts because I loved them so much. Now that I think about it. That was really young to be using a sewing machine. lol. Love the memories!

Hello! šŸ™‚ I just started my quilting journey this past Christmas actually! šŸ˜‰ My parents bought me some supplies to help get me started. I'd seen the Moda blog and otehr quilting blogs around, loved the idea of the jelly rolls and such, and had always been inspired by quilts and the art of quilting. So now I get to have fun quilting too! I began my first real quilt this year and am making it for a friend (I have all the pieces cut out and am working on sewing the top together). šŸ™‚

Thanks for the chance to win a jelly roll! šŸ˜€

I've been sewing since I was 5 (according to my mom), but I've only been quilting for about 20 years. If I had only starting quilting when I started sewing – think how many quilts I could have made in 51 years. Thanks for the great tutorial, now I'll have to make one.

I learned to sew when I was 7 years old. It was one of the subject taught at my school those days. The 1st item that I've sewed was a small handkerchief which my teacher taugh us to do crosstitch. Of course those days everything was hand stitch. I did a lot of patchwork and did quilt for bags and other small projects.
Have been follow your blog for quite sometime now and have like you at the facebook too. Thanks for the lovely giveaway!!

Love Kate Spain – thanks for the opportunity – Terri in BC

A friend showed me your blog when I started quilting in March of 2011. I've been hooked ever since! My first project was a "tummy time" sized quilt for me first nephew (he's now 2 weeks old)! When my sister-in-law opened it at her shower, she nearly cried. She introduced me to the baby saying, "this is your crafty aunt!" since I seem to have mastered a basic quilt, I'd love to try the challenge of a jelly roll!

Keep up the good work! I can't wait to see what you'll come up with next!

I've been sewing for 40 years, since I was about ten, although my fascination with fabric began earlier. My sister and I would cut two holes for Barbie's arms in a rectangle of fabric (for a dress with a tie belt or a blouse depending on length). Our Barbies were very well dressed. I think I made my first quilt when I was 16. Thanks. kcannon@anwsu.org

I love the Terrain fabric, I can't wait for it to be in the shops. I hand quilted my 1st quilt the summer before I left for college. I've tied quilts ever since but I got interested in piecing just in the last 2 years and now I can't get enough!

I have been quilting for 16 years, soon after I discovered this form of art, hobby, addiction during international women's club (mmeting for women of international students). And I have not stopped loving it.

Hi! I've been sewing since third grade and started quilting in 1987, soon to start teaching and working in a quilt store for three years! Life took me away from my sewing machine for many years and now I'm back to make up for lost time busy making quilts for my new twin grandbabies! ! LOVE the jelly rolls and all the new precuts, something that wasn't around my beginning quilting days! I have enjoyed your site and read it often since I discovered this quilting/sewing blogworld! Very inspirational! thank you!

I have been learning to quilt for a little more than a year now although I did make about 4 baby quilts prior to knowing how to quilt 'the right way'. I just love your Summer Love quilt. It gave me an idea too for some fabrics I purchased over six months ago that I've been trying to find the right pattern to create. I can't say much more than that but I THINK it might work. Thank you so much.

Terrain is lovely, lovely. I think I like even more than Fandango. My mother taught me to sew when I was 10 or 12 or so. Only sewed clothing until a year or two ago when I tried my hand at some bags and quilted a table runner. Loved it! I'm still very, very much a beginner, but I have finished a couple more tablerunners, a little tote bag, and just pieced my first quilt top, a baby quilt for our new little one due in August. Can't wait to get it backed and quilted.
